Heart Breaking: Southern California Offshore Toxic Dump

I am posting these two short videos, they're both about six minutes each, so that more people are made aware about a heart breaking matter just off the shore of Southern California where tens of thousands of toxic barrels containing DDT where dumped in previous years. Hopefully we can finally get this matter addressed and maybe get this matter cleaned up.

If you wish to contact California's U.S. Senators to ask if they can get with the scientists in these videos and provide the funding they need. You can get their public contact information here:

https://www.senate.gov/states/CA/intro.htm

On this map if you look where the deep water between Catalina Island and Palos Verdes is and where it says "San Pedro Channel" in yellow letters. That's the location of this dumpsite. You can go to this link and get the full expanded copy of this map. At this link where there's a group of thumbnails this map is the one if you scroll all the way down to the bottom it's the one on the far left.

California Beaches

Do you live in California and like to enjoy the beaches? If you have lived in California for any length of time you are aware that sometimes water quality can be an issue.

Here's one of the go to sources which provides information for the public.

Website - Heal the Bay: https://healthebay.org/

And the here's the 2021 - 2022 Beach Report Card:

Also just for those who may not be aware. California beaches, at least SoCal beaches, if you are like me over the age of 50 (I'm in my mid 50's), never really had a shark population to think about aside from a few Thresher Sharks, a few Blue Sharks and a very occasional small Leopard Shark. In other words never anything to think about.

However today with a much larger population of Sea Lions Southern California has a sizable Great White Shark population and is a Great White Shark nursery.

But while Great Whites can indeed be dangerous and you have to respect that. But like with many other animals people generally tend to not understand them. Here's a short video to kind of dispell the "Jaws" hysteria about Great Whites.

And with the increase population of Sea Lions and Sharks I hear there's a Los Angeles Pod of Orcas but I haven't confirmed this. But it would make sense since generally in nature the rule of thumb is wherever there is something to eat there is something there to eat it. And orcas of course do hunt Sea Lions and they also hunt sharks for their liver. Nevertheless there have been more sightings of Orcas off our SoCal beaches. Here's a few short vids.
